The Dallas Cowboys will pick 19th in Thursday Night’s NFL Draft, with immediate needs to fill after the loss of key veterans like Dez Bryant, Orlando Scandrick and Anthony Hitchens.
Jason Garrett said it’s a balancing act finding players who can help you right away, but still have a high ceiling for future growth.
“It’s Both,” he said. on Tuesday. “It’s getting ready for guys for guys to play in 2018, but you also have to take a little bit of a longer view, because you always want to have a future with your players. Particularly the guys you draft high. One of those big things we talk about in draft meetings is where do you see those guys and where is he going? And what role will ha have for us, and all of that is projection. All of that is prediction but that has to be a big part of the evaluation.”
The Cowboys will Pick at Number 19. They have not traded up or down in the first round in any of the last four years which is the longest streak in Jerry Jones’ tenure.
