The Crawford Softball team is back in the regional final for the second-straight year and the third time in the last four years.
This team has been able to breeze through the first four games of the playoffs. With a talented roster like the one Crawford has they would prefer to play a best-of-three series, but they have not had that option yet in these playoffs. This week is different though as both teams agreed to play a best-of-three series, and as they get set for it they feel rested and ready for the challenge.
“Yeah, last year we’ve had a long playoff run because we played series almost every time,” Junior Cece Villa said. “So it’s just good to have like the recovery time and the actual practice time that we get.”
Coach Kirk Allen knows he has a deep roster and looks forward to using it to help lift Crawford back to the State Tournament.
“We like to play so it’s just nice to get to play two out of three, finally,” Allen said. “I think that it’s going to be interesting to see since we haven’t gotten to do it yet it’s going to be kind of you know kind of learning as we go. But I think it’s gonna be fun. It gives a chance for us to maybe show some of our depth that we have.”
Crawford is no stranger to this round making it here just a year ago, and senior Cambree Aguirre knows there has to be a sense of urgency at this point in the year.
“These are the two toughest teams [In the region],” she said. “We know that this isn’t a game that we can go into and just lollygagging, this is a game we have to go into and give it our all.”
These girls have grown up watching successful Crawford softball teams but have also seen and even helped other Pirate Athletic programs have success, and they would love to add their team to a long list of championship programs.
Crawford and Honey Grove will open their Regional Final series on Wednesday in Argyle at 7:00pm. Game Two will be back in Argyle on Saturday at noon, with a game three to follow if necessary.
