Texas A&M’s defense will look much different is 2019 after the departure of their top-six tacklers from last year’s team.
Linebackers Otaro Alaka and Tyrell Dodson led the team in tackles from their linebacker spots. One of the guys expected to pick up some of that slack will be Junior Buddy Johnson.
“It’s very different with O-T [Alaka] and T-Dod [Dodson] leaving, they were the older guys, the leaders,” Johnson said. “Now it’s having to be me, Aaron Hansford and B-White [Braden White], having to lead the linebacker group.”
While it’s a change for Johnson to take on that leadership role it’s a role he looks forward to playing this coming season.
It’s a big change. I feel like it’s a big opportunity for me and us older guys, but it’s something that has to be done if we’re trying to get where we want to be.”
