AMES, Iowa – No. 19/20 Baylor softball (31-14, 8-6 Big 12) cruised to a 7-1 win to open the road series at Iowa State (22-26, 3-10 Big 12) on Friday afternoon at Cyclone Sports Complex.

Gia Rodoni (19-9) went the full 7.0 frames for the Lady Bears, allowing six hits and just a single run, striking out nine and giving up just one walk.

Rodoni received plenty of offensive support, with the Lady Bears peppering in 14 hits and seven runs to cruise to the series-opening win over the Cyclones.

ISU actually drew first blood in the home half of the third, scraping out a solo home run to take the 1-0 lead into the fourth.

The Lady Bears responded in a big way, coming out firing on all cylinders in the top of the fourth.

Shelby Friudenberg led off the inning with a solo home run on the first pitch she saw, tying the game back at 1-1.

Carlee Wallace kept a hot bat, singling up the middle and moving into scoring position on a wild pitch.

Nicky Dawson drew a walk, leading into an RBI single for Taylor Ellis to give the Lady Bears the lead.

Hannah Thompson roped a double down the left field line, scoring Wallace and moving Dawson to third.

A double steal forced an error by the Cyclones that allowed Dawson to score to push the BU lead to 4-1 after four.

Adding some insurance in the top of the fifth, singles for Kyla Walker and Goose McGlaun with a walk from Wallace loaded the bases for Dawson.

Dawson laced a single down the left field line that allowed both Walker and McGlaun to score, pushing the BU lead to 6-1.

Back in the sixth, Lexi Koltz pinch hit for Maddison Kettler and recorded her first collegiate hit, roping a single into left field.

With Kettler reentering to run, a single for Walker and a full count walk for Shelby Friudenberg loaded the bases, allowing for a groundout RBI by McGlaun to ice the 7-1 lead and win for the Lady Bears.
