WACO, Texas - The celebration continues for the Baylor Lady Bears' National Championship!
The City of Waco and Baylor University held a community parade on Thursday in honor of the team's recent victory in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship.
The parade featured team members and coaches, and traveled down Austin Avenue from 11th Street to 3rd Street.
A championship ceremony took place in front of City Hall at 300 Austin Avenue following the parade. This included a proclamation from the City of Waco, along with speeches from the Lady Bears, Baylor Vice President and Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades, Head Coach Kim Mulkey and Waco Mayor Kyle Deaver, among others.
The Waco community was encouraged to line the streets and show support for the championship team! The community was also invited to attend an autograph session at the Three Rivers Ballroom at the Hilton at 113 S. University Parks Drive at 7:00 p.m.
Baylor’s Golden Wave Band and Spirit Squad participated to add to the atmosphere. H-E-B handed out candy to the crowd and the Baylor Bear Foundation provided t-shirts.
The Lady Bears beat Notre Dame with a final score of 82-81 on April 7 to secure their third national championship. The City of Waco also hosted similar downtown parades in 2005 and 2012, following the Lady Bears previous championship campaigns.
