The Baylor Lady Bears are national champions for the third time in program history! But it did not come easy.

The Lady Bears had to overcome a lot of adversity, including the loss of their leader Lauren Cox. However, her team rallied around to win it for L.C.

Baylor had their sights set on Tampa ever since before this season started. The team motto was “Together to Tampa.” They got here together, and after Lauren Cox went down they made sure they were going to finish this journey together.

When Lauren wen’t down you could hear a pin drop inside the Amalie Center, and Head Coach Kim Mulkey said when it happened and Lauren didn’t get up she knew it was bad.

After the initial shock to Cox’s teammates, they knew Lauren had helped them get this far. Now it was their turn to carry it home.

“We just had to come together,” says Chloe Jackson, who was awarded “Most Outstanding Player”. “Our motto is ‘Together to Tampa’. We had to stick together. We knew it was going to be tough without her, but we had to do it for her.”

“When she went down, I can say we got a little rattled,” says Senior Forward Kalani Brown. “But we had to pull it together. Pull it out for her. The whole time she was coaching on the sideline. She was still involved. I mean, she came out of that tunnel. I think that speaks volumes of her character. So I was just like, ‘We did it for you, babe.'”

The storylines on this team are amazing. FOX44 Sports talked about them a lot over the course of the season – but to see it all come together on Sunday night was pretty special.
