WACO, Texas – No. 7 Baylor men’s tennis (12-2) won a tightly contested doubles point and then dominated singles play to record a 7-0 sweep over Purdue (4-5) Saturday night at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
Baylor improved to 24-1 in its last 25 home matches and is 8-0 this season in Waco. With the win, Baylor now leads Purdue 8-0 in the all-time series.
In doubles play, the top two courts found themselves in 3-0 and 4-0 deficits while Constantin Frantzen and Adrian Boitan rolled to a 6-1 win over Santiago Galan and Andre Suzanne at the No. 3 spot.
Then, both remaining matches forced a tiebreaker, and the duo of Will Little and Matias Soto prevailed in a 7-6(4) victory over Maksymilian Raupuk and Athell Bennett on court two to secure the opening point.
Baylor then started rolling off points in singles action. First, Kyrylo Tsygura breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Andre Suzanne on court six. Then, Jimmy Bendeck won his 70th career singles match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Santiago Galan at the No. 5 spot for the 3-0 Baylor lead.
For the second-straight night, No. 117 Sven Lah clinched the match and took a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Maksymilian Raupuk at the No. 4 spot.
Playing the rest of the matches out, Boitan clinched a 6-1, 6-1 win against Dominik Sochureck on court three.
Soto earned his 30th career singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Athell Bennett at the No. 1 spot, and then No. 34 Will Little made it a 7-0 sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mateo Julio on court two.
