KANSAS CITY, Mo. – No. 9 Baylor soccer (17-5-0, 8-1-0 Big 12) was held scoreless for the first time in the 2018 season, dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 14 West Virginia (14-4-3, 7-2-0 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon at Swope Soccer Village.
After stealing a 1-0 overtime victory over the Mountaineers in West Virginia, the Bears were unable to find the same magic in the conference tournament title match, allowing an own goal and a pair of late second-half scores by WVU.
After a first period that saw a combined six shots taken by the two squads, WVU took the advantage in the second period, out-shooting Baylor 19-7 in the match and 15-5 in the second half.
The own goal in the 36th minute stood as the only blemish for Baylor at half, but defensive breakdowns in the 77th and 85th minutes allowed the Mountaineers to put the match out of reach.
